Supporting HSCPs, Child Protection Committees, Adult Protection Committees and third sector organisations to strengthen practice, improve systems and navigate complexity with confidence

With over 20 years’ experience across social work, public protection, quality assurance and strategic leadership, I support organisations to strengthen safeguarding practice, improve systems, prepare for scrutiny and deliver meaningful, sustainable change.
My work spans quality assurance and self-evaluation activity, learning reviews, Children’s Services Planning, inspection preparation, policy and procedure development, multi-agency facilitation, and interim leadership support.
I have worked across both operational and strategic roles throughout my career, giving me a strong understanding of the pressures facing frontline services, senior leaders and partnership structures alike.
Known for my calm, grounded approach, I help organisations make sense of complex information, identify meaningful patterns, and translate data, learning and lived experience into clear and actionable improvement activity.
Supporting services to evaluate practice, analyse performance, identify themes and strengthen improvement planning through evidence-informed approaches.
Facilitating and contributing to learning reviews that support reflection, partnership learning and meaningful service improvement.
Supporting the development of strategic plans that connect data, priorities, lived experience and partnership objectives in a clear and practical way.
Providing support to services preparing for inspection activity, including self-evaluation, evidence gathering and improvement planning.
Review and development of policies, procedures and practice guidance to support effective and consistent multi-agency working.
Design and delivery of training, workshops and facilitated sessions that encourage reflection, shared understanding and constructive challenge.
Flexible consultancy support for leadership teams requiring additional capacity, oversight or specialist expertise.

I believe improvement work is most effective when people feel able to think clearly, work collaboratively and engage honestly with both strengths and challenges.
My approach combines strategic oversight with an understanding of operational realities, helping organisations move beyond compliance-driven activity towards meaningful and sustainable improvement.
Alongside extensive safeguarding and public protection experience, I bring strong analytical and reporting skills, with particular strengths in:
translating complex data into meaningful insight
identifying patterns, themes and emerging risks
connecting practice experience with strategic planning
supporting partnership working across agencies
facilitating reflective discussion and constructive challenge
producing clear, high-quality written reports and improvement documentation
My background includes senior strategic and leadership roles across children’s services, child protection, fostering and practice development.
Most recently, I worked as Lead Officer: Child Protection within East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership, including co-leading preparation for the 2022 Joint Inspection of Services for Children and Young People at Risk of Harm, which achieved an evaluation of “Excellent”.
I now provide independent consultancy support to organisations across Scotland.
